The Entrance vs BUFC B South Match Report

Raul from Barnstoneworth B skinning some defenders

Round one results suggested this match was going to be a pretty good indication of how we are placed against the higher quality teams in the B south comp.

The first half was very tight and although both teams dominated for periods it’s probably fair to suggest that we had the better of the chances. Where we were possibly guilty at times last season of playing at the level of our opposition, the same in reverse was clear with a high standard first half ending at 0-0.

We went one down just after the break courtesy of an own goal when a well directed corner was deflected into our net at the near post. From there the opposition started to get on top for a short period and we were kept in the contest with some classy goal keeping from Reidy. Unfortunately we conceded again in the space of 10 mins and from 0-2 down it was always going to be tough.

To our credit we didn’t drop our heads. The talk remained positive, we responded well to the challenge regularly hitting them on the counter. Our speed up front was showing with James Mitchel terrorising his grandpa’s best mate who was playing at left back (in every sense). Jimmy ran onto a lovely through ball and slotted a trade mark “toey” past their keeper to get us back in the contest at 1-2.

From there it was all Barnstoneworth and in the final 15 we did enough to win 3 games. Raul hit the bar from a free kick just outside the box, Their keeper pulled off the second best save I’ve ever seen tipping a Leeroy free kick bullet over the bar, and Ant Barlow hit the underside of the bar with a header he had no right to get even close too – how (and if!!!) it stayed out I’ll never know….

Although we ended 1-2 down, it was a great all round team performance against the B grade grand finalists of last year and leaves us confident we will give this comp a good shake. Although none of us could actually understand him, Gaz summed it up perfectly in his post match interview for Scottish radio: “we will get the f..kers next time”.
