Barnstoneworth BN vs Kanwal Match Report
Due to the rescheduling of our washed out round 4 game, we found ourselves facing Kanwal two weeks in a row but this time on our turf.
With some of our missing players able to return our numbers looked slightly better this time around but we still needed to call upon some assistance from the 35C’s in the form of Tim Watt and Leigh McInerny to make sure we could maintain our rotations.
Having played our opponents the week prior, we knew we were in for a hard game and this seemed to make us very tentative, meaning we were struggling to take the game to Kanwal. Despite largely being second best, we did create and miss two gilt edged opportunities to take the lead but it looked like we would hold on until half time until we conceded a soft penalty a minute before half time.
Kanwal duly converted the spot kick despite Geoff getting a hand to it, to send them in 1-0 up at the
break.
With some choice words spoken and hard truths told at half time, we seemed to find some of our missing mojo in the second half and were justly rewarded when Frank finished off some good lead up play to level the scores. With us increasingly forcing Kanwal onto the back foot, it was no surprise when Frank added a second goal to give us a deserved lead, which we were able to maintain to run out 2-1 winners.
This was a very satisfying result given our disappointing start to the game and showed that we are going to have to battle hard every week in order to maintain our lead at the top of the table.
Unsurprisingly, the man of the match award went to Frank for his two goal heroics, whilst the Scrotum medal was awarded to Thang ‘I never touched him ref!’ Phang.
Final Score: Barnstoneworth 2 – 1 Kanwal
