Barnstoneworth 45B vs Killarney

Well, Barnstoneworth 45B’s (Previously 45A) yet again struggled to field a full team against our nemesis team Killarney Fossils who last time out best us 1-6.

Kick-off was at 17.00, under lights, at the Central Coast home of football, Pluim park.

The refs arrived early and we only had 10 players in the pitch, as our star striker, James Banovich, was running late so I despatched my chief scout, Andrew Stuart, over to Field 3 where the 45C’s were playing with 5 subs on the bench. He returned, after casting his expert eye on who was available, with Danny Carter who is an out and out striker. A superb stand in until James arrived!

The game kicked off and became a very tight midfield struggle with both Phil Lisle & Yatesey beginning to get on top and dominate. James arrived and I made the tactical change by switching Rob Scott at left back with Phill Skidmore and putting John Rymill on the left wing, which left me with a very potent forward line in James and Danny.

It wasn’t long before James did what he does best and put us 1 up.

We were clearly the better side creating all the chances in the first half, only to be constantly thwarted by the Fossils ex Socceroo goal keeper, who to be honest pulled off some magnificent saves.

The half time whistle came and although we were on top, we needed that second goal to be comfortable.

The conclusion in the half-time team talk was that were never going to beat this keeper with long no range shots, so the second half plan was put into action, use Dom Parkinson’s pace on the flanks supported by Mick Hamill to draw the centre half out and isolate the keeper. Using the flanks worked a treat and we literally tore their defence apart. James with his hat-trick Dom and Danny backing him up with goals and Yatesey missing a sitter with his head, we finally got our redemption and won the game 7-0!

What a great effort by all the boys. Imagine what we could do if we had a full squad to call upon!
