BUFC A vs Gwandalan

Venue- Tunkawullin Oval, Gwandalan

BUFC took the long trip up the coast to play the newly promoted Gwandalan.

BUFC started slowly and took time to find any rhythm against a well organised opposition who seemed very confident and passed the ball around comfortably.

After an early scare BUFC got into their stride and put pressure on the Gwandalan defence and in the 10th minute Gavin broke through and had a shot well saved but the rebound looped up for Ray ‘The Hammer’ to head home into an unguarded net to make it 1-0.

BUFC seemed to have the measure of Gwandalan and in the 25th minute Craig cooly finished off for his first league goal for the club.

BUFC dominated possession but failed to convert anymore chances before halftime, but with 5 minutes to go before half time Gwandalan mounted a good attack only to see the shot saved by Gordy the makeshift keeper.

By now the weather had deteriorated and the game was being played in torrential rain which probably suited most of the expats more than the locals and was reminiscent of playing at Hackney Marshes on a cold wet winters day.

Half-time Scoreline Gwandalaan 0 – Barnestoneworth 2

Gwandalan re-grouped for the second half and started off brightly and still knocking the ball around, waiting for an opportunity to get a goal back.
However with the BUFC back four in commanding form and the midfield working tirelessly the chances were very far and few between.

The combination of Craig, Gavin and Steve provided to much pace up front for Gwandalan and with better finishing and more luck could have scored a couple a piece.

In the 62nd minute the referee turned down a good penalty appeal when Yatesy ‘twinkle toes’ went down in the box like a sack of potatoes only to see his theatrics dismissed and given a score of 9.5 by the judges. (even if it was a clear penalty)

In the later stages of the second half BUFC bombarded the opposition goal with 7 corners being taken in 10 minutes and overall corner count of 15 to 0.

Finally in the 72nd minute our flying left back/midfield/forward Andy ‘The Precious One’ Pryde produced some dazzling footwork to beat a couple of defenders and slot home for number 3.

Overall a good team performance with very good individual performances from Andy and Robbie who rolled back the years to produce a faultless performance at rightback.

Final Scoreline Gwandalan 0 – Barnestoneworth 3
