BUFC D’s vs Mountains
This week our very own Concert Party (aka the dashing D’s) were assigned to forward observation duties in the high ground of Mangrove Mountain. Thankfully we were well-prepared for this, having undergone intensive altitude training on Wednesday evening by lugging the esky up to the car park at Terry oval.
To quote that well-known oracle of all things football, Jimmy ‘The Chin’ Hill, this was to truly prove to be ‘a game of two halves’. Despite our opponents being rooted to the bottom of the table and only starting with 8 players, we just couldn’t seem to find the killer touch. Consequently, the Mountains grew in confidence (and numbers) as the half wore on to finish it 0-0 and with 10 players. Much head-scratching and questioning ensued at half-time and whilst there was nothing much wrong with our general play, we had nothing to show for our efforts other than two crossbars and a post plus a host of near-misses, which was very frustrating.
Half time score: BUFC 0 – Mountains 0
Whilst we had been guilty of firing blanks in the first-half, the second-half literally exploded into action with Gunner Lofty finding the net twice in the space of the first 10 minutes, to soothe our furrowed brows! With the drought broken, the flood gates were veritably opened, with two more from Gunner Lofty, one from Gunner Gloria, another from a very hard-working Gunner Nobby (John) and Chah Wallah Andy finishing things off with a screamer of a free-kick into the top corner sending us out 7-0 winners, a result which had seemed very unlikely at half-time!
Final score: BUFC 7 – Mountains 0
The highlight for all present had to be the sight of Sergeant-Major Baldrick (aka Kamikaze) having a run-out in the second-half (no connection to the change of playing fortunes by the way!), playing right back/centre midfield/centre forward. Enough to put real fear into the hearts of the enemy (as well as his own coach)! Shame his only goalscoring opportunity was poked wide as well as being ruled offside! Our second clean sheet of the season and with Woy Woy dropping two points at Ourimbah, the gap between us has now narrowed to just two points.
Man of the match was a no-brainer with Gunner Lofty collecting a free beer for his four-goal haul (seems like a poor return to me!).
