BUFC D’s Vs Mountains

This week the D’s set sail for the fine pastures of Mangrove Mountain looking for some Finals form in our final league match of 2009. Missing Smithy (spotted playing with the ladies on Sunday say no more) and Davey Thomas (not spotted but might have been the one in drag) we had a minor re-shuffle with Baldrick let loose for a rare run out and West Ham Mark taking over the gloves in goal.

This was to be a good test with the Mountains holding us out with 9 men till halftime last time round but fielding a full strength squad today. However following last weeks classy performance at Ourimbah, the good ship Barnstoneworth came out all guns blazing, reaping rewards after only 10 minutes with Andy Stuart calmly slotting the ball into the bottom corner from a fine build up. Soon after we were 2-0 up with Gloria wacking in a slightly fortuitous penalty before Bandana man went on a maizy run round half their defence and unleashed a sidewinder into the top corner for 3-0.

The Mountains to their credit never gave up and nicked a goal back before John made it 4-1 with a toe poke special and Ed headed in a 5th to make it 5-1 at halftime.

In the 2nd half we threatened to open the floodgates but the Mountains defended wilfully and threw numbers forward at every opportunity including West Ham Mark getting Sumo’d about 5 seconds after he’d released the ball. However with Ed and John in full flow and the midfield passing the ball around well, it wasn’t long before we added 2 more from Ed’s head which was quite handy considering he was passing to their goalie most of the time.

Final score was 7-1 with Ed taking out the man of the match award for his fancy footwork, work rate and nicking all the glory with 4 goals – normally I’d say well done but he actually promised 5 so quite a Mr Floppy methinks. A big thanks to Tracy yet again for running the substitutes while fashion of the day goes to Robbie the dog for his John Wayne neckerchief (its actually Andy’s)

Roll on next Saturday!!
