Barnstoneworth WAA vs East Gosford – Match Report

Barnstoneworth Women's All-Age Team

A late pitch inspection by the referee nearly saw the game called off but the coaches from both team convinced him that ‘it wasn’t too bad!’ 10 minutes in and it seemed like the girls were literally stuck in the mud of their own half as East Gosford piled on the pressure with wave after wave of attacks. Defensively we were holding our own and any balls into the box were easily dealt with by Kelly K in goal. The Rams Goalkeeper was playing more like a centre back, something I’m sure she regretted when Libby picked up the ball just over the half way line and scored with an outrageous long shot. Its fair to say the goal was against the run of play and we weren’t playing well but we went into the break 1-0 up.

East Gosford were relentless in their attacking play and we continued in our struggle to get over the half way line with any purpose. It was certainly a different game to last week and a real baptism of fire for debutants Nat and Bec. Finally,15 minutes into the second half the green and whites got what they deserved with a great strike into the top corner. 1-1.and just like that the game changed but not how you would expect. It was all out attack for the red and whites and for the rest of the game we seemed to dominate across the park. Libby was a ball of energy in the middle, Sarah, Bek and Sara were first to everything and Tracy was like a female Trent Alexandra-Arnold flying forward from fullback. Beth replaced Kelly in goal with Kelly moving up front and nearly scoring with her first run into the box (well if she’d actually had a shot rather than pass to someone who wasn’t there!!). We definitely had chances to win but in the end a draw was probably a fair result.

Scorer: Libby Gouw
