Barnstoneworth United FC is pleased to announce that it will again hold its pre-season grading/social tournament at the Central Coast Adventist School on Sunday 1st March. All new and existing registered players are encouraged to take part to get to know each other better and have some fun.
Grading will follow a tournament format, with player’s names being drawn at random to make teams of 5-6 depending on numbers. The tournament will consist of 2 leagues playing concurrently on 2 separate pitches, with games being 10 minutes one way. League positions will be decided by three points for a win and one point for a draw, with the top team from each league playing the runner up from the other and vice versa for a place in the Grand Final. Goal difference and result of matches between tied teams will be used to decide final positions. If results are identical after this, a play-off game will take place to decide which team progresses. If semi-final games are tied at the end of normal time, the match will be will be decided by ‘golden goal’ (sudden death) extra time of 5 minutes. If scores remain level after this period, one player from each team will be withdrawn every two minutes, until only two players on each team remain and a goal scored. The grand final will follow the same format, however, in the event of a tie after normal and extra time, the winners will be decided by a penalty shoot-out. The Grand Final winners will be presented with a splendid gold-painted trophy and a photo on the website – nice!
Only registered BUFC players are eligible to take part for insurance reasons, however, players who have registered online just prior to the event, will be allowed to play, provided they are able to show evidence of their completed online registration. In the event of weather disruptions, the event will move to the adjacent indoor courts and appropriate footwear will therefore be required, as will shin pads. Tournament registration is $10 per player, to cover the cost of school facilities and as to raise club funds, which will be used to benefit each team. Players are asked to register by no later than 11.30am in order for games to commence on time. All participants are advised to perform their own warm-up prior to the start of the games, in order to try to minimise the risk of injury.
Non-alcoholic cold drinks will be available on the day at reasonable prices and families (supporters) are encouraged to come along but children must be supervised at all times. A brief AGM will follow the tournament, in order to provide all members with an update on preparations for the upcoming season and to allow election of the 2014-2105 BUFC committee.
