Barnstoneworth Women’s All Age vs Budgewoi – Match Report

With 5 minutes to kick off, 9 players completed their warm up as Chloe McDonough trudged slowly across the field from the carpark without a care in the world. Bek was
asleep somewhere under a tree and Libby waited patiently in her car for her Mum to bring her some socks! Not the ideal preparation for our first game of the season, or
maybe it was! The first 10 minutes was all Budgewoi but the team slowly started remembering how to play football and eventually after a great run down the right wing new signing Cloé Moroney played a through ball to Chloe McDonough who scored with her first touch of the game. Chloe and Cloé combined again for a second a few minutes later and despite the terrible start we found ourselves 2-0 to the good.

Budgewoi continued to press our defence and after a tackle that was straight out of the NRL play book by GK Kelly K, the referee was left without any choice but to award a penalty which was well converted. (2-1) Any thoughts of a comeback were quickly dealt with as Chloe completed her first half hattrick. HT (3-1).

The second half was a one of the best halves of football this team has ever played. Superb strong defending from Jayne and Tracy at full back and Sarah and Sara in the
middle laid the foundations for some sublime passing football that lead to a 4th goal, this time from last year’s top scorer Libby. (4-1). Debutant Cloé wasn’t satisfied with her 2 assists and capped off a player of the day performance with our 5th .

Angelique and Beth dominated the middle of the park and Kelly L was unlucky not to get on the score sheet as she glided in from the right wing. Libby scored her second and our 6th and if Kelly K had had her shooting boots on the score could easily have gone into double figures but we’re not greedy!

Scorers: Chloe McDonough (3), Libby Gouw (2),  Cloé Moroney 1
