A great start to the season for the new Barnstoneworth team – 1-0 against SEU.
While SEU did score the only goal as a home goal, it was caused by pressure from the D2’s.
Unfortunately, while there were lots of opportunities for scoring, no further goals were forthcoming.
We are looking forward to our next challenge against Kariong..
The good ship Barnstoneworth (D1) dropped anchor at Narara High School this week on a scorching Sunday afternoon for a game against old adversaries Gosford. With almost a full strength squad this was a good chance to try out the new guys and get a bit of match fitness with only 2 weeks to the big kick off. Read more
The opening of the 2010 campaign saw the Good ship Barnstoneworth setting sail for an early morning raid on Mangrove Mountain with a motley crew of scoundrels and vagabonds press ganged from numerous sleazy taverns and places of ill repute around the Central Coast. Rick, Alan, Tony Mick and Nigel were making their Barnstoneworth debuts and were soon involved in early skirmishes as we poured forward with the impressive Alan nicking a poachers goal within a few minutes. Barnstoneworth vs Kanwal 10:00AM at Mangrove Mountain
A blustery dusty day up the mountains saw the Barny Army pitched against Kanwal, our nemesis team this year having beaten us twice 2-1 with a lone 2-1 win in reply in our 3 encounters. They also came into the match on the back of a 9-0 thrashing of East Gosford in the minor semi and 6-0 drubbing of Woy Woy in the Final with early goals in both games so a tough skirmish was expected. Location, Mangrove Mountain,, the Barnstoneworth D division vs Woy Woy, Major Semi Final, delayed kick off, some time after 4PM, Sat 12th Sept 2009
An epic encounter was expected after both teams finished joint top of the league (apart from their extra fixture) but only played each other once all season which was a fine 3-0 win to us but they were missing their star striker and it was their only loss. Read more
This week the D’s set sail for the fine pastures of Mangrove Mountain looking for some Finals form in our final league match of 2009. Missing Smithy (spotted playing with the ladies on Sunday say no more) and Davey Thomas (not spotted but might have been the one in drag) we had a minor re-shuffle with Baldrick let loose for a rare run out and West Ham Mark taking over the gloves in goal. We had a tough fixture this week on the tiny pitch at a sunny Ourimbah with the Barny army aiming to get back on track after last weeks derailment to Kanwal. A very physical 1st half saw Ourimbah snatch the lead against the run of play with a fine cross bundled across the line before we struck back after some fine pressure with John unleashing a toe poke past their keeper. Halftime 1-1. Read more
A must win game started badly with the team lacking urgency and timing at the back and cohesion in the midfield for the 1st 15 minutes, gifting Kanwal 2 soft goals which could have been more. Eventually we clawed our way back into the game finishing the 1st half strongly with a hatful of chances but unfortunately no breakthrough, not helped by enforced breaks as the sprinkler system came on. We last played East Gosford back in April when they were obviously a very good side but slightly disorganised but have since recorded some fine results, climbing up the division to battle for 3rd spot with Kanwal. Today the troops started brightly getting into our passing game quickly, dominating possession and hitting them down both flanks but struggled to breech their well organised defence. Finally our efforts were rewarded when we broke through with Jess thumping in the opener after probably our best build up of the year involving half the team. Half-time 1-0. Read more
