Barnstoneworth WAA VS Kariong– Round 6 Match Report
Even though we went into the game unbeaten we were looking for a big improvement this weekend. We hadn’t started well in any of the previous games, so our focus was on arriving early and putting in a good warm up. 4 minutes into the game and Angelique fired a us into a 1-0 lead following a lovely passing move and a typical energetic explosive Ange run. I can’t remember who scored next but I think it was Chloe and then Libby – (I really should have written this earlier!)… Either way, it was great to watch as the girls in red and white dominated the possession and put into practice everything we had worked on at training.
Half time 3-0.
After a very positive team talk at half time those of us on the sidelines were expecting more of the same… we got there eventually but the first 10 minutes saw us playing a slightly different brand of football that we hope we don’t see again too soon; during which Kariong managed to scramble home a goal from a very well taken corner. Maybe we’ll skip the half time team talk next week and do another warm up instead! At 3-1 we did look a bit nervous but we were soon 4-1 up and thanks to Kelly K, or maybe Libby?!! Who cares what order they went in, we scored another 2 and all 6 goals were the result of some excellent team work typified by the last goal…
Player of the day Sarah won the ball looked up and played it in to the feet of Alicia on the half way line, she controlled it turned and played a sublime ball that cut through the defence setting Kelly King free. All she had to do was run 40 yards and put it into the back of the net, which of course she did, making it look all too easy.
An early season top of the table clash next week.
Final Score: Barnstoneworth 6-2 Kariong
Goal scorers: Kelly King (2) Libby Gouw (2) Angelique Heunis, Chloe McDonough
