BUFC B South vs Avoca Match Report

BUFC B vs Avoca

Back at “Fortress Duffys” against our Avoca “gummies” mates in a game where we desperately needed the 3 points to keep in touch with the runaway leader of our division. There were good early signs for us (after a record attendance at training….. Woohoo!!!) we dominated early field position and were able to maintained the bulk of possession. This time however we did secure the early lead when a lovely left hand side short corner play worked between Jimmy O and Stu McSwan resulted in Stuie curling a brilliant right footed shot into the corner of the net from well outside the left of the penalty box. Stu maintains it was actually from his own side of halfway – whatever the truth, it was lovely to watch and we are very great full to him for remembering to pack BOTH his boots for this game. Another great opportunity came shortly afterwards when a “Jules rocket” was miraculously tipped onto the post by the Avoca keeper (I’ve only ever seen one better save than that…..)

Avoca weren’t creating much in attack and their only chance of the first half came from a nicely struck free kick which was acrobatically tipped (or headed or both or something…) over the bar by Reido. Half time came with the score at 1-0. Our aim for the second half was to get back to playing our game, not to panic and to capitalise on the opportunities. In a largely uneventful second half we again created the best of the chances, however we were not able to secure the breathing space needed from a second goal. As a result, we started to panic a little and the standard of our play deteriorated. However, we fought hard, played tough and hung on for the much needed win. Although it was ugly at times, it sure feels better and is a hell of a lot more beneficial than a “pretty loss”. Final result 1-0 to the good guys. Next up: Gosford Away.

Players player: Stu McSwan (2nd Reido, 3rd Glen)
